“Why does Colby/Thomas County need a facility like the MAC?”
- There is a documented trend of the declining population of Northwest Kansas. We need to offer services like the MAC to keep our families and businesses here for the good of our Western Kansas communities.
“What will the MAC provide that the community doesn’t already have?”
- It is true; our community already has some of the space being proposed. However, there has been a request for more and for additional services. We feel that the MAC answers those requests and will only compliment what the City, CHS, and CCC already has.
“Why should we give to MAC instead of letting the City build one?”
- The City of Colby does not want to add services that might add expenses (i.e. taxes) to its citizens at this time.
“Who is going to use the MAC?”
- Everyone that wants to. There will be programs available for all ages and all groups.
“How will you finance the operations of the MAC once built?”
- We know this is a concern of citizens and have plans to use students, retirees, and volunteers as much as possible. Those who can’t give cash have also volunteered to help keep it running until the funding base is secured.
“Why should I give?”
- You care about youth our community and our future
“Why are you asking me now?”
- Now is the time for us to make a decision on the scope of the project based on financial commitments. The fire station is built, the swimming pool is built, CCC is not in a campaign. The time is now to avoid conflicting with other large fundraising efforts.
“What size of give/pledge are you looking for?”
- We are asking you to make a five you gift/pledge so we can make the largest impact possible. All gifts regardless of size will be helpful.
“Why should I give to the MAC project versus others?”
- We have the land. We have done the planning. We are prepared to move forward and make this happen.
“How will my gift be used?”
- All gifts will be used for construction unless otherwise designated.
“Is there an urgent reason to give?”
- Yes, we will make a decision the end of August on the size of the project and we need everyone to make their decisions so we can achieve our goals. Even if you can’t make your first gift until 2012, your commitment will help us decide on what is achievable.
“What types of gifts are you accepting?”
- Yes, all forms of gifts will be received (cash, stocks, commodities, etc.) If we can turn it into cash, we will accept it.
“Are there naming/recognition opportunities for those who give?"
- Yes, we have identified areas within the MAC and the necessary gift size needed for that recognition.
“Will I have a say over how you use my gift?”
- We certainly are open to all input and welcome your talents to make this project successful.
“If built, how will you decide who uses it and when?”
- Once all gift commitments are made, we will total the amount to be received over the next five years and work with an architect to make as much of an impact as possible.
“With so many groups asking for money, why don’t you partner with someone?”
- We are planning to partner with Colby Community College, Colby High School, and the local soccer organization (AYSO) as an example. This is a facility that we want used by all and welcome all partners.
